Physical Therapist Assistant Applicants

In addition to regular admission and application procedures, applicants for the physical therapist assistant program must meet the following requirements:

1. Minimum ACT composite score of 16.

2. Complete the following course work: BIOS 1010 General Biology, PTAS 2010 Introduction to Physical Therapy, SPCH 1010 Fundamentals of Speech, BIOS 2110 Introduction to Anatomy & Physiology I including lab, ENGL 1010 English Composition I, PTAS 1010 Medical Terminology for PTAs, PSYC 1810 Introduction to Psychology, and PHYS 1070 Applied Physics for Allied Health.

Students must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 in the specified courses and make satisfactory progress in all course work in order to qualify for an interview for the physical therapist assistant program. The current grade of the specified courses at the time of the selection process will be used in the selection procedure; however, the final grade will be used to determine the student’s final ranking. For students who have taken comparable courses from other institutions, an official transcript needs to be sent to the Registrar’s Office.

3. Submit three letters of recommendation. Possible sources might include current employer, immediate past employer, previous or current instructor or other non-relative. Letters of recommendation written by friends and/or relatives will not be accepted.

4. Complete 16 hours total of observation in two different physical therapy settings. Each setting should consist of eight total hours. Forms are available from the PTA program for documentation by the therapist that these hours were completed.

5. Submit a professional resume.

6. Submit answers to essay questions (provided by PTA program).

7. Submit high school transcripts or GED scores (if applicable).

8. Submit the Physical Therapist Assistant Program Application for Admission (provided by the PTA program)

9. Upon invitation, complete a personal interview with the physical therapist assistant admissions committee.

10. Upon selection to the physical therapist assistant program, the student must complete a physical exam, be current on all vaccinations including the Hepatitis B series (vaccination documentation should be submitted to the program), and receive a tuberculosis test with documentation of test result submitted to the program.
