Course Objectives:
- To describe and explain the changes of the developing person at different
periods of childhood and adolescence.
- To examine possible causes or sources of developmental change and
reasons for disturbances in the developmental process.
- Analyze different developmental events from the perspectives of five
major theories of development-psychoanalytic, learning, cognitive, sociocultural,
and biological systems and recognize those theories when used by others
to analyze events.
- Explain how research contributes to the understanding of development
and evaluate and use research findings to investigate a topic of interest
to you.
- To enhance students’ awareness of the ways in which social,
political, and cultural trends affect the individual.
