Course Description: Designed for a higher degree of competence in word processing using microcomputer technology. Emphasis is on independent decision making, problem solving, composition, and proofreading.
Course Objectives: Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- Construct and/or edit documents in acceptable business format.
- Efficiently operate a Microsoft Word 2003 word processing system in a business office.
- Apply a disciplined, logical, and comprehensive approach to problems and decisions; critically think through issues before recommending solutions.
- Be sensitive in the application of knowledge and experience even in unfamiliar situations.
- Use the knowledge acquired to continue toward a more advanced study in the field of business.
Content Information:
The final grade will be comprised of all chapter assignments, quizzes, SNAP tutorials and quizzes, final project and final exam.

- Students will be required to log-in to SNAP and complete the tutorials.
- Students will be required to complete the exercises and submit the assignments for each of the chapters that are covered.
- On-line discussion will be needed if the student needs specific help with assignments.
- Tests and quizzes will be completed through the SNAP website.
Course Expectations: To complete this course, students will be required to:
- Maintain regular and continued on-line attendance. You will be expected to log-in to the course Web site at least twice a week to work through course materials and participate in course discussions. You will be expected to log-in to SNAP and complete tutorials bi-weekly.
- Spend approximately five to seven hours per week learning the objectives and skills for each chapter and preparing for tests and assignments.
- Submit assignments and meet deadlines for testing.
- Communicate with the instructor regularly throughout the course.
- Manage the technology of an on-line course; work the on-line tutorials if not an experience on-line student.
- Act in a mature and professional matter when interacting with instructor and classmates.
- Expect to have timely feedback from instructor. E-mail will be answered within 72 hours and homework graded and returned within seven days of deadline due date.
Student Requirements:
- Have a valid e-mail address. Make sure your e-mail address is current on Hawknet.
- E-mail the course instructor within one week before the first day of class.
- Must obtain required access codes (SNAP) and book.
- Must have computer literacy skills to:
- Save and retrieve files to a location.
- Download, save and open files with an attachment.
- Locate and submit files with an attachment.
- Create, open and read e-mails and attach files to an e-mail.
- Obtain all required texts and supplies before the first day of class.
- Submit all assignments, quizzes, tests, discussions and projects before or on due date to receive full credit.
