Course Description: General course in the use of information resources and libraries for all college students. Emphasizes locating and using the automated card catalog, on-line databases, and reference materials.

Course Objectives:
Library Orientation and Usage is a course designed to teach the student to utilize a library and its materials. The course is also designed to supplement the curriculum by showing the student how the library can help in daily studies.
Content Information:
- Students will complete the worksheets and quizzes in the modules for their grades in this course.
- Modules will be graded on accuracy and correct information.
- Incomplete modules will be graded and given partial credit.
- Modules not attempted will receive a grade of zero and be averaged with the rest fo teh student's work for the course.
- Modules turned in after the final due date will have 10 points deducted for each day it is late.
- Assignments not completed before grades are due to the Registrar will receive a grade of F.
Course Expectations: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Use the library's Catalog to locate materials available for checkout.
- Utilize reference tools to find information about a new, unfamiliar topic.
- Use online databases to locate journals and other articles.
- Use the Internet to locate information in an efficient, effective manner.
- Create a bibliography of works cited for a research project in APA or MLA writing style.
Student Requirements:
- Have a valid email address
- E-mail the course instructor prior to the first day of class
- Have access to the Internet
- 15 hours is expected of the student to work in the course.
- Must obtain required access codes, books, lab supplies, and supplemental materials.
- The student must have computer literacy skills to:
- Save and retrieve files to a location
- Download, save, and open files from a source.
- Locate and submit files with an attachment
- Create, edit, save, and retrieve files from a location
- Participate in an online chat room environment
- Navigate the internet to reach a web site or search the Internet
- Create, open, and read e-mails and attach files in an e-mail
- Students are strongly encouraged to take the online tutorial and/or non-credit online preparation course.
- Have adequate computer operating hardware (see online course information on the website for hardware requirements)
