Course Description: Provides assistance in making career decisions through interest and aptitude testing. Explores occupations via research and on-site explorations. Includes identification of goals and steps necessary to achieve goals.
Course Objectives: Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- Assess individual interests, abilities, values and personality type and apply these to personal career decisions.
- Locate a variety of information related to specific career areas.
- Identify nontraditional career options and transferable skills.
- Identify barriers/obstacles to personal career decisions.
- Develop an individual career plan, identifying both long and short-term educational and career goals.

- Learn how to conduct an Informational Interview, complete an Informational Interview and discuss your findings with classmates..
- Identify non-traditional career options, and transferable skills.
- Complete an Occupational Research Paper.
- Research information about searching for a job.
- Compile a Career Portfolio.
Student Requirements:
- Have a valid email address. Make sure you email address is current on Hawknet.
- Email the instructor before the first day of class.
- Have access to the internet on a daily basis.
- Submit all assignments, quizzes, tests, discussions and projects before the due date to receive credit.
- Obtain all required texts and supplies before the first day of class.
- Have basic computer skills which include reading and sending emails, sending and opening attachments, downloading files, uploading files, use the Internet as a research tool and participate in discussions.
