AGRI 1310 - Agribusiness Management

Course Description: Provide future managers a fundamental understanding of key concepts needed to successfully manage the agribusiness. The course includes account, credit, income tax and financial instruments involved in the decision-making process, as well as business organization structures.

Course Objectives: Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to:

  1. Discuss the characteristics of business organizational structures.
  2. Identify sources of risk faced by producers and Agribusiness managers.
  3. Compare and analyze sources of credit and capital in Agriculture.
  4. Calculate financial ratio of business.
  5. Outline an evaluation method for operating decisions.
  6. Calculate human resources needs for agricultural business.
  7. Calculate the time value of money.
  8. Identify the cost and compare owning or leasing of needed Resources.

Content Information:

Students are expected to submit assignments and tests by midnight on Sunday of the week due. Five points will be deducted for the first day late and then one point per day there after. Missed tests can not be made up unless due to an emergency situation. Notify your instructor as soon as possible.

Students are required to submit a business plan for any type of product or business of their choice as a final project. You must submit a final project to pass the course. All work must be in Word format when submitted.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will have completed the following:

  • Quizzes and/or exams over course content.
  • Assigned exercises/problems for each chapter.
  • Contributed to class discussions.
  • Analysis and written response for accounting scenarios.

Course Expectations: To complete this course, students will be able to:

  1. Spend approximately 15 hours per week learning accounting.
  2. Have a working knowledge of MS Word and MS Excel.
  3. Submit homework and take quizzes/exams before deadlines.
  4. Act in a mature and professional manner when interacting with instructor and classmates.

Students can expect:

  • To have timely feedback from instructor. Email will be answered within 72 hours and homework graded and returned within seven days.
  • That instructor answers all questions completely and provides relevant feedback.

Student Requirements:

  1. Have a valid e-mail address
  2. E-mail the course instructor prior to the first day of class
  3. Have access to the Internet
  4. A student is expected to work in the course 15 hours per week.
  5. Must obtain required access codes, books, lab supplies, and supplemental materials
  6. The student must have computer literacy skills to:
    • Save and retrieve files to a location
    • Download, save, and open files from a source
    • Locate and submit files with an attachment
    • Create, edit, save, and retrieve files from a location
    • Participate in an online chat room environment
    • Navigate the Internet to reach a web site or search the Internet
    • Create, open, and read e-mails and attach files in an e-mail
  7. Students are strongly encouraged to take the online tutorial
  8. and/or non-credit online preparation course.
  9. Have adequate computer operating hardware (see online course information on the website for hardware requirements)
