Definitions
The following terms have the stated meanings in this Code:
  1. The term "student" includes all persons taking courses from the institution, both full-time and part-time, enrolled for credit or noncredit, continuing education, distance education and special topic courses.
  2. The phrase "faculty member" means any person hired by the institution to conduct classroom or other academic activities.
  3. The phrase "institutional official" includes any person employed by the institution, performing assigned administrative or professional responsibilities.
  4. The phrase "Vice President of Student Services" means that institutional official exercising primary authority over institutional student affairs programs and operations.
  5. The phrase "member of the campus community" includes any person who is a student, faculty member, institutional official, any person employed by the College, volunteer or guest.
  6. The phrase "institutional premises" includes all land, buildings, facilities, and other property in the possession of or owned, used, or controlled by the institution, including adjacent streets and sidewalks.
  7. The term "organization" means any number of persons who have been granted institutional registration or recognition.
  8. The phrase "judicial officer" means any person or persons authorized by the Vice President of Student Services to determine whether a student(s) has violated the Student Code and to impose sanctions upon students found to have violated the Student Code.
  9. The phrase "accused student(s)" means a student, group of students or student organization against whom disciplinary charges have been brought.
  10. The term "complainant" means a member of the campus community who has brought charges under this Code against any student, group of students or student organization.
  11. The phrase "appellate board" means any person or persons authorized by the College President to consider an appeal from a judicial officer's determination that a student has or has not violated the Student Code or from the sanctions imposed by the judicial officer.
  12. The term "shall" is used in the imperative sense.
  13. The term "may" is used in the permissive sense.
  14. The term "policy" includes the consistent written regulations of the College found in the Student Code of Conduct, Resident Life Manual, or other official publications.
