| General Education Philosophy
The general education philosophy of Northeast
Community College consists of the following beliefs:
- Students should possess knowledge enabling them
to live informed, productive lives in their respective communities
and be prepared for lifelong learning.
- General education courses introduce students to
knowledge and skills that enable them to fulfill educational
and occupational goals. Graduates having completed general
education requirements become better prepared to function
effectively as citizens.
- General educational courses are essential. General
education courses will assist students in achieving a goal
of lifelong learning, providing them a broader outlook beyond
the skills required in their particular discipline. These
courses are designed to broaden students' general life perspectives,
both academically and socially.
- Developmental courses assist students in developing
prerequisite skills when necessary. In these courses, students
are prepared for the academic challenges posed by college
level courses.
- Assessment of general education is a major component
in the learning process at all levels.
