| General Education Goals
General education goals can be achieved in general
education courses and degree-specific courses.
Productive citizens need to communicate effectively, apply
basic mathematical strategies, solve problems, and interact
in a variety of social settings. Therefore, Northeast Community
College has established a set of general education goals
to include these areas.
The following Fundamental Academic Competencies and
Skills (FACS) are integrated as learning objectives
into a variety of courses taught at the college.
1. Communication Skills- The student will
be able to:
• Write with a sense of purpose, organization, and
mechanical correctness.
• Deliver a purposeful message with appropriate physical
presence and vocal variety.
2. Problem Solving Skills- The student
will be able to:
• Recognize the problem.
• Review information about the problem.
• Develop plausible solutions.
• Evaluate results.
3. Math Skills -The student will be able
to:
• Demonstrate the ability to convert and calculate
physical quantities.
• Analyze and solve word problems.
4. Social Skills - The student will be
able to:
• Demonstrate interactive behaviors.
• Demonstrate knowledge of individual, national,
and international diversity.
