2008-2009 Men's Basketball Season Outlook
“In the world of junior college basketball we would be considered very young,” said Head Coach Dan Anderson. “We have only three players returning, but only one with experience,” he said, “but our recruiting class is good.” Coach Anderson describes his returners like this: DeAndre Jones, 6’1” East Chicago, IN, returning guard brings toughness and leadership to this young team; Luke Wakerley, 6’1” Brisbane, Australia, brings a good work ethic and leadership. Rashad Allison, 6’0” from Minneapolis, MN, brings scoring ability and a good basketball IQ.
“All three players have what college coaches look for,” Anderson said. “Toughness, good shooting ability, commitment to defense, and a great attitude. They are just fun to be around. The young players will see what they do and it rubs off.”
The Hawks men’s team will have many new faces on its 2008-09 roster. “We are very pleased with the potential,” said Coach Anderson. “Five things stand out about this new class: shooting ability, work ethic, passing, unselfishness, and chemistry.”
Anderson evaluates his new players like this: ChaMar Wilson, 6’3” guard from Minneapolis, MN, has a great feel for the game and can really shoot the ball. David Taylor, 6’1” guard from Nassau, Bahamas, brings great quickness on defense; Jordan His Law, 6’4” forward from Rosebud, SD, is always around the ball making something happen; Tony St. John, 6’0” from Bismarck, ND, brings great quickness and a scoring ability; Andrew Lyle, 6’4” forward from Hastings, NE, is extremely athletic and can really score; Seth Wendt, 6’3” from Leigh, NE, is a very good outside shooter and has a great work ethic; Sean Stevens, 6’8” post player from Newburgh, IN, has a good basketball IQ and will be a force inside; Thomas Colbert, 6’7” post from Pomona, CA, will also be a force inside. Thomas is also a tremendous rebounder; Julio Rodrigues, 6’5” from Sao Paulo, Brazil, has great skills and can really shoot the ball; Dario Cox, 6’2” guard from Nassau, Bahamas, Arber Dabaj, 6’0” guard from Pristina, Kosovo, and Amadeus Long, 5’2” guard from Hastings, NE, round out the team. “We expect the freshman to be major contributors,” Coach Anderson said.
“We are excited and have high expectations,” said Coach Anderson. “We want to keep it going. The team’s hard work during the pre-season should make us a fun group to watch.”
