Fundamental Academic Competencies & Skills (FACS)

Productive citizens need to communicate effectively, apply basic mathematical strategies, solve problems and interact in a variety of social settings. Therefore, NECC has established a set of general education goals to include these areas.

Upon receiving a degree from Northeast Community College, students will be able to demonstrate effective communication, problem solving, math, and social skills. The following Fundamental Academic Competencies and Skills (FACS) are integrated as learning objectives into a variety of courses taught at the college.

  1. Communication Skills- The Student will be able to:
    • Write with a sense of purpose, organization, and mechanical correctness.
    • Deliver a purposeful message with appropriate physical presence and vocal variety.
  2. Problem Solving Skills- The student will be able to:
    • Recognize the problem
    • Review information about the problem
    • Develop plausible solutions
    • Evaluate results.
  3. Math Skills -The student will be able to:
    • Demonstrate the ability to convert and calculate physical quantities.
    • Analyze and solve word problems.
  4. Social Skills - The student will be able to:
    • Demonstrate interactive behaviors
    • Demonstrate knowledge of individual, national, and international diversity.
